Michael Owen’s surprise move to Manchester United
Ex Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen signs with Manchester United after his contract with Newcastle ended this week. There was also interest for the striker from other clubs such as Everton, Aston Villa, Stoke and Hull.
It is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson has great belief in the striker saying “Michael is a world-class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level, Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish.”
Michael Owen is believed to be over the moon with his new team however the signing did come as a surprise to him, he said ”I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment’s thought. This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands. I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here.”
Details on the contract are not confirmed but is believed that it is an incentivised deal with a significant drop in wages due to his previous worries with injury’s.
